About Vascular Disease
The principal cause of vascular disease is a thickening of the artery lining from plaques or fatty deposits. This condition is commonly called “hardening of the arteries.” The arteries are blood vessels that supply blood, oxygen and nutrients to the body from the heart. Narrow, hardened arteries make it more difficult for blood to flow through to reach the destination tissue. Vasuclar disease most commonly affects the arteries of the heart, brain and legs. Depending on where the vascular disease occurs, there are many different symptoms.
